What’s new in Syncfusion Essential Studio Back Office 2008 Volume 4?

Essential PDF

• PDF/A-1b - Added support for creating PDF/A-1b documents based on the ISO 19005-1:2005 standard. This standard defines a format for the long-term archiving of electronic documents, ensuring that documents will be reliably reproduced in the future.  This is suitable for governmental organizations and other places where archiving is of paramount importance.
• Bar code - Added support for rendering bar codes inside PDF documents; this feature also provides support for exporting rendered bar codes as images in various formats.
• Content Extraction - Added support for extracting text and images in a PDF document. This feature also supports extracting text and images from a specified range of pages.
• Improved HTML to PDF conversion - The HTML to PDF converter’s speed has been enhanced, and it now has the ability to enable or disable client scripts in a rendered Web page. It also supports automatic detection of page breaks in rendered Web pages.
• Other features - Several other features have been added, such as the ability to render HTML-styled text, line annotations, and text Web links.
• Improved documentation and samples - Enhanced documentation and samples provide greater details about new and existing features.

Essential XlsIO

• Medium-trust support - The latest version of Essential XlsIO supports deploying applications in medium trust. You can now work with XlsIO on the medium-trust level with the same API; this allows you to deploy your application in a shared hosting environment.
• RGB color support in XLSX - Spice up your reports with attractive RGB colors, and give your application rich styles.  This version adds support for reading and writing RGB colors in Excel 2007 XLSX format, enabling standard Excel 2007 32-bit color preservations in your application.
• Advanced conditional formatting - Excel 2007 has advanced support for conditional formatting. In this version, Essential XlsIO carries support for advanced visualizations in Excel 2007 XLSX format. You can now apply cell formatting to data bars, icon sets, and color scales when the data in a cell meets an applied condition; this provides you with an opportunity, when dealing with large amounts of data, to create visual effects, allowing you to compare the value of a cell to other cells.
• Improved XLSX Support - This version of Essential XlsIO has improved support, for XLSX files, that stabilizes reading and writing functions. You can now freeze a pane, split a pane, show or hide gridlines, ignore error indicators, read or write sheet-level document properties, read or write sheet-view properties, zoom, preview page-breaks, apply summary settings to a group, and parse chart data points in XLSX format.
• String preservation in range level - The latest version of Essential XlsIO adds a property that preserves strings in a worksheet when importing data. This gives users the ability to work with complex strings without having to type-convert while importing.
• Calculation modes - Excel allows you to set various modes in order to control formula calculations. This version of XlsIO gives you the ability to set calculation modes so that a user can change a calculation in order to prevent formulas from being calculated by default when opening an Excel file.
• Display properties - This version of Essential XlsIO contains properties used to get or set gridline colors and to show or hide scroll bars; this allows you to control the way an Excel workbook or worksheet is displayed. You can now set various colors for a gridline and enhance your reports with a rich look. You can also hide scroll bars, preventing the user from scrolling down.

Essential DocIO

• Improved .docx support - In DOCX format, Essential DocIO supports the same features that it previously supported in DOC format. Below are specific features added for this version:
• Mail-merge reading and writing support
• Form-fields preservation and writing support
• Reading and writing support for footnotes and endnotes
• Fill effects, background color, and watermark preservation support
• AutoShapes preservation support
• Improved Find and Replace - This feature has been enhanced so you can find and replace control characters such as carriage return and new line. This version also has added support to preserve the formatting of an existing placeholder while replacing content with or without formatting.
• Enhanced mail merge - For nested mail merge in tables, this feature merges information from a database with a document containing parent and child relationship tables within a table.
• ActiveX form controls preservation - Gives you the ability to preserve ActiveX controls—such as Text Box, Check Box, Option button, and Label—in both DOC and DOCX formats.
• Improved Doc to HTML support - Improving upon its format preservation, Essential DocIO now supports nested tables, shapes, and text-box preservation when converting a Word document to HTML.
• Comments support - Essential DocIO is now capable of removing all comments or only specific comments from a document.
• Image-bullet preservation for .doc to .docx - The ability to preserve image bullets in DOC-to-DOCX conversion has been added.

PDF (ASP.NET , Windows Forms, WPF)

• PDF Booklet - Added support for booklets in PDF.  Booklets are documents with multiple pages arranged on sheets of paper that, when folded, present the correct page order.
• Improved HTML to PDF conversion - HTML to PDF conversion using MSHTML and Essential PDF has been greatly improved.  User credentials are now supported for working with Active Directory authentication.
• 3-D Annotations - 3-D annotations are the means by which 3-D artwork is represented in a PDF document.  You can now embed collections of 3-D objects such as those used in CAD software.
• Digital Signature - Creating and signing PDF documents with digital signatures is now supported.  Incremental signatures and multiple signatures are also supported.

XLSIO( ASP.NET , Windows Forms, WPF)

• Support for compound File format in Managed code-This change enables medium-trust support for XlsIO.
• Support for Scrolling to particular row or Column-This version provides support for scrolling to a particular row or column in a large worksheet while opening it in Excel.
• Support for getting Used Range of Data without formatting-Added support for obtaining a range from rows or columns in a data spreadsheet that excludes empty cells containing formatting.

DocIO( ASP.NET , Windows Forms, WPF)

• New - Read .docx files -Added support to read MS Office 2007 files.
• Support for Nested Mail Merge -Create personalized letters and pre-addressed envelopes or mailing labels.
• Support for Text Box Fill Effects -Added support for reading and writing textbox-fill effects.
• Support for Image Hyperlinks -Image-based hyperlinks that mask complex URL’s and enhance readability of documents are now supported.
• Convert from Doc to HTML format -This is a vastly enhanced Microsoft Word-to-HTML file converter.
• Manipulate Document Comments -Ability to remove or replace document comments.
• Advanced Find and Replace feature -Find and Replace have been greatly enhanced.  Using the FindNext method, it is now possible to locate text within a specific paragraph or table.

Calculate( ASP.NET , Windows Forms, WPF)

• Changes for the IF function - A new property has been added, AllowShortCircuitIFs, that indicates whether additional work should be done to guarantee that an unused alternative is not computed in an IF function call. Currently, if an IF function call involves nested functions in its arguments, all the arguments are evaluated.  Setting this new property avoids unnecessary calculations.   Also, support for calculating an IF function with two arguments has been added.
