What's new in Syncfusion Essential Studio WPF 2008 Volume 3?

Essential Tools WPF

• DockingManager with Document Container - The DockingManager now incorporates a document container supporting Multiple Document Interface (MDI) and Tabbed Document Interface (TDI) applications in WPF. With this feature, now you can dock windows and switch between different states, such as Floating or AutoHiding; these windows can also be tabbed as documents.
• Horizontal and Vertical TabGroups - The DockingManager now comes with support for horizontal and vertical TabGroups, allowing tabbed documents to be placed horizontally or vertically.
• Currency Text Box - The Editors Package adds yet another control to its vast array. The Currency Text Box control, for currency-specific behavior, implements all the functionalities needed to format currency input and validation.

Essential Chart WPF

• New 3-D Chart Types - A 3-D mode for pie and line charts has been implemented, and it includes all of the 3-D chart features, such as rotating mouse drag and zooming on the mouse wheel. It also enables you to switch between 2-D and 3-D modes during run time.
• Multiple Axes Support for 3-D Chart - Now, 3-D charts support multiple axes as well as give you the ability to customize all the axes in a chart; they also facilitate the customization of axes walls. New properties, such as TopWallBackground, TopWallThickness, RightWallBackground, and RightWallThickness, have been implemented for the customization of side walls.
• OLAP Support - Essential Chart WPF now supports binding data from analysis services. Data from an OLAP cube can be bound to a chart. This feature helps to better analyze business objects by effectively using Essential Chart to visualize grouped data. Labels can also be grouped—allowing users to expand or collapse these groups in order to display or hide corresponding series segments in a chart.
• Heat Map Control - To provide new insight into your data, the Essential Chart library now includes a Heat Map control. The Heat Map control helps visualize graphical representations of data where values are taken by variables in two measurements selected from items in a data source. Heat Map comes with powerful data binding support and the ability to effectively customize your business data representation by transforming volumes of data into actionable insights.

Essential Diagram WPF

Essential Diagram WPF can generate powerful, feature-rich diagrams. The Diagram control provides an intuitive user-interaction model for creating or editing diagrams with complete XAML and data-binding support. Also, its programmatic interface places at your disposal many useful commands and methods, which enable you to perform functionalities like Printing, XML Serialization, and Automatic Layout of Algorithms.

Essential Edit WPF - Essential Edit WPF can be used as a basic editor with all the basic features, such as text editing, cutting, copying, and pasting. It enables you to open and save files that come in a variety of formats. The Edit control has built-in commands that can be bound using command bindings to perform various operations, such as Open, New, Save, Save As, Copy, Cut, Paste, and Select All.

• Language Support - Essential Edit WPF supports common programming languages, such as C# and Visual Basic. Syntax highlighting support is also included. It also facilitates adding user-defined languages, and it highlights code in the control based on a custom language.
• Expand-and-Collapse Support - With the expand-and-collapse support in Edit WPF, text can be collapsed or expanded using the Collapse or Expand buttons. This feature allows the user to view only the required areas of a text.
• Line-Number Support - Line numbers for text can be displayed in the Edit control; this feature can be enabled or disabled.

Essential PDF

• PDF/A-1b - Added support for creating PDF/A-1b documents based on the ISO 19005-1:2005 standard. This standard defines a format for the long-term archiving of electronic documents, ensuring that documents will be reliably reproduced in the future.  This is suitable for governmental organizations and other places where archiving is of paramount importance.
• Bar code - Added support for rendering bar codes inside PDF documents; this feature also provides support for exporting rendered bar codes as images in various formats.
• Content Extraction - Added support for extracting text and images in a PDF document. This feature also supports extracting text and images from a specified range of pages.
• Improved HTML to PDF conversion - The HTML to PDF converter’s speed has been enhanced, and it now has the ability to enable or disable client scripts in a rendered Web page. It also supports automatic detection of page breaks in rendered Web pages.
• Other features - Several other features have been added, such as the ability to render HTML-styled text, line annotations, and text Web links.
• Improved documentation and samples - Enhanced documentation and samples provide greater details about new and existing features.

Essential XlsIO

• Medium-trust support - The latest version of Essential XlsIO supports deploying applications in medium trust. You can now work with XlsIO on the medium-trust level with the same API; this allows you to deploy your application in a shared hosting environment.
• RGB color support in XLSX - Spice up your reports with attractive RGB colors, and give your application rich styles.  This version adds support for reading and writing RGB colors in Excel 2007 XLSX format, enabling standard Excel 2007 32-bit color preservations in your application.
• Advanced conditional formatting - Excel 2007 has advanced support for conditional formatting. In this version, Essential XlsIO carries support for advanced visualizations in Excel 2007 XLSX format. You can now apply cell formatting to data bars, icon sets, and color scales when the data in a cell meets an applied condition; this provides you with an opportunity, when dealing with large amounts of data, to create visual effects, allowing you to compare the value of a cell to other cells.
• Improved XLSX Support - This version of Essential XlsIO has improved support, for XLSX files, that stabilizes reading and writing functions. You can now freeze a pane, split a pane, show or hide gridlines, ignore error indicators, read or write sheet-level document properties, read or write sheet-view properties, zoom, preview page-breaks, apply summary settings to a group, and parse chart data points in XLSX format.
• String preservation in range level - The latest version of Essential XlsIO adds a property that preserves strings in a worksheet when importing data. This gives users the ability to work with complex strings without having to type-convert while importing.
• Calculation modes - Excel allows you to set various modes in order to control formula calculations. This version of XlsIO gives you the ability to set calculation modes so that a user can change a calculation in order to prevent formulas from being calculated by default when opening an Excel file.
• Display properties - This version of Essential XlsIO contains properties used to get or set gridline colors and to show or hide scroll bars; this allows you to control the way an Excel workbook or worksheet is displayed. You can now set various colors for a gridline and enhance your reports with a rich look. You can also hide scroll bars, preventing the user from scrolling down.

Essential DocIO

• Improved .docx support - In DOCX format, Essential DocIO supports the same features that it previously supported in DOC format. Below are specific features added for this version:
• Mail-merge reading and writing support
• Form-fields preservation and writing support
• Reading and writing support for footnotes and endnotes
• Fill effects, background color, and watermark preservation support
• AutoShapes preservation support
• Improved Find and Replace - This feature has been enhanced so you can find and replace control characters such as carriage return and new line. This version also has added support to preserve the formatting of an existing placeholder while replacing content with or without formatting.
• Enhanced mail merge - For nested mail merge in tables, this feature merges information from a database with a document containing parent and child relationship tables within a table.
• ActiveX form controls preservation - Gives you the ability to preserve ActiveX controls—such as Text Box, Check Box, Option button, and Label—in both DOC and DOCX formats.
• Improved Doc to HTML support - Improving upon its format preservation, Essential DocIO now supports nested tables, shapes, and text-box preservation when converting a Word document to HTML.
• Comments support - Essential DocIO is now capable of removing all comments or only specific comments from a document.
• Image-bullet preservation for .doc to .docx - The ability to preserve image bullets in DOC-to-DOCX conversion has been added.

Shared Library WPF

Magnifier - Now you can view a WPF application’s content very closely with the help of the Magnifier control with vector graphics support. The Magnifier control has a port for viewing a zoomed vector graphic focused around the mouse pointer. It can also set and multiply visual elements on the screen and enable users to view objects more closely, such as chart data points. The Magnifier control comes with a very effective feature that customizes the lens and its frame using built-in properties, such as FrameType, Raidus, ZoomFactor, and LensBackground. Apart from this, you can export zoomed content as an image in varies formats, like .png, .gif, and .bmp

WPF Skin Manager - Syncfusion WPF allows you to change the visual appearance of your entire application with the help of the powerful Skin Manager. Essential Gauge

• The Syncfusion WPF Gauge library allows users to configure XAML and C# codes in order to draw various circular gauge designs. The gauge control comes with sophisticated support that provides endless possibilities for control customization. With Essential Gauge, a user can concisely display several data points or data ranges within a compact area. The data given in the control will be easily depicted and quickly understood by users of any level.
• Circular Gauge - This is the Essential Gauge control suite that implements a circular gauge for the Windows Presentation Framework. It has been implemented with multiple scales, pointers, and ranges. It has a pivot point, around which all of its associated objects are drawn. Syncfusion ships both full-circle and half-circle frame types for the circular gauge.
• Scaling Support - Essential Gauge ships with complete scaling support for controlling element placements and value ranges. It is packaged with the ability to customize tick values, including major ticks, minor ticks, and major label ticks; it also has endless customization attributes, such as Radius, Start Angle, Gap Sweep Angle, and even the scale: Bar Size.
• Pointers - Essential Gauge ships with support for adding multiple pointers to gauge elements. This assures endless customization of pointer caps and pointers. Inherent scale placements and pointer-needle types, such as Bar, Marker, and Needle, are also available.
• State Indicator - State indicators indicate some sort of state -- on or off, true or false, etc. -- of the gauge control. With the state indicators, Syncfusion ships support for text, ActiveText, and location.

What's new in Syncfusion Essential Studio WPF 2008 Volume 3?

Grid WPF:

• Improvements in internal support for cell virtualization, cell updating and drawing. Support for inserting and removing rows and columns with associated events -Grid WPF now supports direct inserting, and moving and deleting rows and columns using the InsertColumns commands on the GridModel.  Additionally, accompanying notification events like ColumnsMoved are available.
• Support for Selections -You can now enable selection of rows, columns and cell ranges through the GridModelOptions property. Events are also available to customize this selection behavior. Grid WPF also has a ListBoxSelectionMode.
• Support for Current Cell events -Various CurrentCell events are available in this release. They include actions like CurrentCellMoving, CurrentCellStartEditing, CurrentCellValidating, etc.  Some are cancelable events and others are strictly notification events.
• Support for dynamically providing CoveredRanges and CellSpanBackgrounds -Events have been added to allow you to dynamically provide CoveredRanges.

Tools WPF

• New Document Container Framework (MDI / TDI) -Create MDI applications using WPF. The new document container framework adds support for Multiple Document Interface (MDI) and Tabbed Document Interface (TDI) applications in WPF.  Sophisticated window switching styles are also supported.
• New Advanced Tab Control -TabControlExt—a new advanced TabControl with drag and drop support of tab items, multiple tab strip placements, different tab scroll styles, additional context menus, multiple close button types, dynamic in-place header text editing, and more–has been added. The control also supports skinning and custom drag markers.
• Docking Manager XBAP Support -The DockingManager can now be used in XBAP applications.
• Outlook 2007 style GroupBar collapsible navigation -GroupBar control has Outlook 2007-like collapsible Navigation Pane support.
• RibbonVistaGlass Style -The ribbon window now supports Vista Glass style, further enhancing the appearance of ribbon-based applications.
• Color Picker -Color-picker control now supports the selection of colors using an eyedropper.  New layouts, visual styles, and themes have been added; ARGB values can also be directly edited.
• Chromless Window - With Chromeless Window you can create customizable windows for the end user's presentation UI.  It comes with features that allow resizing, and dragging and moving.  The user can create custom title bars, status bars, scrollbars, and so on.  It also comes with support for various skins.
• Extensive Help Document - Ship an extensive collection of help documents with Essential Studio WPF, making the developer feel at ease while building any application that uses the controls.
• Sample Modifications - As a part of this release, have altered all the existing Tools WPF samples and created new samples to demonstrate the efficiency of Essential Studio WPF.

Chart WPF

• New Chart 3-D Support -Chart WPF now comes with complete 3-D support for twelve different Chart types.  Interactive rotation and zooming of the chart are built into the control.  Camera projections and light settings can also be applied to the chart.
• Extended Data Binding -Chart data binding support has been improved.  Now a chart can be directly bound to an observable collection, LINQ query results, databases, collection views, and lists.  Data context can be set at different levels in the chart and used across levels.
• Improved Mouse Events -Mouse events in the Chart series now provide additional information about segments of the series including chart points.
• Sample Modifications - As a part of this release, have altered all the existing Chart WPF samples and created new samples to demonstrate the efficiency of Essential Studio WPF.

PDF WPF

• PDF Booklet - Added support for booklets in PDF.  Booklets are documents with multiple pages arranged on sheets of paper that, when folded, present the correct page order.
• Improved HTML to PDF conversion - HTML to PDF conversion using MSHTML and Essential PDF has been greatly improved.  User credentials are now supported for working with Active Directory authentication.
• 3-D Annotations - 3-D annotations are the means by which 3-D artwork is represented in a PDF document.  You can now embed collections of 3-D objects such as those used in CAD software.
• Digital Signature - Creating and signing PDF documents with digital signatures is now supported.  Incremental signatures and multiple signatures are also supported.

XLSIO WPF

• Support for compound File format in Managed code-This change enables medium-trust support for XlsIO.
• Support for Scrolling to particular row or Column-This version provides support for scrolling to a particular row or column in a large worksheet while opening it in Excel.
• Support for getting Used Range of Data without formatting-Added support for obtaining a range from rows or columns in a data spreadsheet that excludes empty cells containing formatting.

DocIO WPF

• New - Read .docx files -Added support to read MS Office 2007 files.
• Support for Nested Mail Merge -Create personalized letters and pre-addressed envelopes or mailing labels.
• Support for Text Box Fill Effects -Added support for reading and writing textbox-fill effects.
• Support for Image Hyperlinks -Image-based hyperlinks that mask complex URL’s and enhance readability of documents are now supported.
• Convert from Doc to HTML format -This is a vastly enhanced Microsoft Word-to-HTML file converter.
• Manipulate Document Comments -Ability to remove or replace document comments.
• Advanced Find and Replace feature -Find and Replace have been greatly enhanced.  Using the FindNext method, it is now possible to locate text within a specific paragraph or table.

Calculate WPF

• Changes for the IF function - A new property has been added, AllowShortCircuitIFs, that indicates whether additional work should be done to guarantee that an unused alternative is not computed in an IF function call. Currently, if an IF function call involves nested functions in its arguments, all the arguments are evaluated.  Setting this new property avoids unnecessary calculations.   Also, support for calculating an IF function with two arguments has been added.

Docking Framework: Lets you easily incorporate VS.NET 2005-style docking in your WPF applications. The docking panes can be rendered in several modes, including docked, tabbed, floating, auto-hide, etc. Use built-in skins or plug in custom skins using templates.
Ribbon Control: Create Office 2007-like Ribbon menus, Application Menu, Quick Access Toolbar, and the Quick Access Dialog for end-user customization. The ribbon can be displayed in small or large icons mode, KeyTips (the tips that appear when the user presses the Alt key) and Tooltips can be displayed and RightToLeft mode is also supported. Use built-in skins or specify custom colors for the controls.
GroupBar and TaskBar: Ideal for creating Outlook-style UI, these controls support customizing the orientation and come with several built-in skins. Full customization using templates is also supported.
Gallery control: This control comes with great built-in animation effects and ideal for displaying a grouped list of thumbnails of images or any other entities. There is even support for drag and drop across groups. There are several built-in skins and the ability to customize using templates.
Editors Package: Included are a Calendar and DateTimeEdit, which can be combined to create a Dropdown Calendar. The AutoComplete control lets you provide hints to the user as they type into the textbox. The FontListBox renders the font names in the corresponding font, making it easier for the end-user to choose. A rich-looking ColorPicker can be used in RGB or HSV mode, and the NumericUpDown provides support for animation while the user scrolls through the values using the up-down buttons. All these controls come with built-in skins and are also customizable.
