Powerful PEERNET Reports wizards guide you through the process of adding tables, reports, labels, and queries to your reporting projects. Then, a simple component-based design method allows you to customize your reports and labels.

Visual Designer

PEERNET Reports provides a complete WYSIWYG environment that allows full access to all the objects used to construct a reporting or labeling solution. It can build virtually any style of report or label. It comes with an extensive collection of components Text, Rich-Text, Logo, Line, Shape, and Barcode that are fully customizable.

Database and Visual Query Builder

PEERNET Reports provides a built-in heterogeneous J-SQL engine and a Visual SQL Query (QBE) builder that allows you to visually construct the SQL used in report or label (no need to know SQL). This powerful J-SQL engine allows you to access multiple sources of data (JDBC sources, ODBC sources, Java Object sources, etc) all at the same time. This means you can join data from many different sources (an Excel spread sheet to an Oracle database table for instance) with no special database programming.
Why do we say J-SQL and not simply SQL. The reason being that the SQL engine is Java aware. This allows any Java Object (ones you create or created by others) to be accessed as a Java Object Table. The J-SQL engine is what allows this to happen seamlessly. It provides full access to the Java Objects. You can access any field or methods of these Java Objects just like you do in your own Java code.

Paper Stocks

PEERNET Reports provides fully customizable user definable Paper Stocks.

Why? In order to provide a true WYSIWYG environment for constructing reports and labels that meet industry design and layout standards, you need to be able to specify and control the paper size and layout.

This feature enables reports and labels to be sent to a printer or exported to formats like Adobe PDF or raster image files like JPEG or Windows BMP in a truly WYSIWYG manner.

Advanced Scripting and Expressions

PEERNET Reports script and expression language (unlike other reporting solutions) is the Java language. In other words, PEERNET Reports does not have its own proprietary script and expression language but instead it uses Java everywhere. This means that if you have written your own Java classes and expressions, you can directly access them from PEERNET Reports without having to recode them into a proprietary language. You can even copy and paste them into PEERNET Reports.

Powerful Object Model

PEERNET Reports, unlike other reporting solutions provides access to any part of the reporting solution through the PEERNET Reports Object Model. This model describes the API used to alter the reporting solution called from a request, report or label event method or from your own Java code.

Reuse

PEERNET Reports takes reuse to the extreme. Not only can you parameterize a report or label to create your own report and label templates but you can also create Requests.

Requests are executable units of work that can do a variety of operations at once. You can think of Requests as macros. Their primary purpose is to reuse a report or label in order to export and/ or print the report or label to one or more formats (Adobe PDF, Postscript, EPS, Image) and/ or one or more printers.

However, a Request is not limited to this, it will do what ever you program it to do

PEERNET Reports for J2EE is an extension of PEERNET Reports allowing you either to embed PEERNET Reports into your own J2EE service or to deploy and utilize the ready to use PEERNET Reports Server (a J2EE web application).

PEERNET Reports for J2EE is not a Report Server like some other reporting solutions. Although it comes with a web application that can be used out of the box to deploy and execute reports or labels, it is primarily deployed embed and tightly integrated with your own web application service.

This high performance and scaleable engine has been deployed and tested on the following J2EE Web Servers:

• BEA WebLogic
• IBM WebSphere
• Macromedia JRun
• Macromedia Cold Fusion
• Sun Java System Web Server
• Sun ONE Web Server

PEERNET Reports Embedded Engine

PEERNET Reports Embedded Engine allowing you to embed PEERNET Reports into your own desktop application and deploy it royalty free. It also allows you to embed PEERNET Reports into a service or J2EE component.

Reports for J2EE and the Embedded Engine have been tested on the following platforms:

• Microsoft Windows
• Linux (Red Hat and SuSe)
• Solaris (SPARC and Intel)
• IBM AS400
• IBM iSeries

You can deploy this product to any Java 2 version 1.3 or higher platform. It is recommended that you use version 1.4 or higher.

If you choose to use Java version 1.3 on IBM AS400, IBM iSeries, Solaris, Linux, or any other UNIX environment, you will be required to install either the IBM Native AWT Toolkit or XVFB on your J2EE server. Using Java 2 version 1.4 in headless mode eliminates the requirement for either the IBM Native AWT Toolkit or XVFB on your J2EE server.

Advanced Features of Reports for J2EE and Embedded Engine include:

Embed

PEERNET Reports for J2EE and Embedded Engine make embedding easy. The same PEERNET Reports Object Model you use inside the PEERNET Reports Designer is the same one you use when embedding the reporting solution. There is only (1) one additional API that needs to be learned in order to embed a reporting solution into your application.

Fonts

In order to have a true WYSIWYG environment across all possible platforms, PEERNET Reports for J2EE and Embedded Engine use a fonts folder to control the available fonts for reports and labels. To add a font, you just place your Windows TrueType font file in the font folder.

Why only Windows TrueType files? PEERNET Reports can only support the fonts loadable by the Sun’s Java 2 platform and this is currently limited to Windows TrueType files.

PEERNET Reports Viewer is a free view only product that you may distribute royalty free. It allows you to distribute your reports and labels to anyone's desktop so that they can view and print your reports or labels on their desktops.
