Give your applications the ability to query TCP/IP finger servers. Finger Wizard is an ActiveX component that allows you to utilize the Finger Protocol without requiring you to understand the underlying TCP/IP technology. Finger servers hold information about the user base of that machine - such as name, department, etc. - that can be accessed via finger. Multiple instances of Finger wizard can be created to talk to multiple Finger servers simultaneously.

This product is also available as part of the Internet Protocol Wizard ToolPack.

Finger Wizard makes it easy to utilize the Finger service of networked servers. You can access all the information that the servers provide with easy to use methods.

The Finger service runs on many types of servers. The main use is to provide data about the users of the particular system. Some return who is online at the moment, some return information about the mail boxes hosted on that server, and even others return scientific data.

The Finger Protocol used is used for a few different purposes. The primary is to interogate a server about its users. By querying with the user name, or even possibly the actual name of a user you can find out out if they are online on the server, if they mail, their real name , their mail box name, their personal directory and more. It all depends on the administrator of the finger server for how much information you will actually get. There are also different implementations of the use for instance an institute offers earthquake information by querying it with coordinates and other information.

This control works with any ActiveX container and works in ActiveX scriptable languages such as VBScript.
