What’s new in Syncfusion Essential Studio for ASP.NET AJAX 2008 Volume 4?

Essential Grid

• Grid Grouping Control ASP.NET
• GridPager enhancements - Design-time features have been implemented for GridPager. Ability to edit pager items for GridPager has been added
• Excel-like editing - Support for inline editing, just like Excel, provides an easy way to update multiple cells; changed data can be saved on post-back.
• Load hierarchy tables on demand with pass-through grouping - You can now load child tables on demand with a pass-through-grouping data source.

Essential Tools ASP.NET

• RTL support - Right-to-left language support is now provided for toolbars, menus, tree views, group bars, generic drop-downs, spell checking, windows, and rich-text editors.
• Localization support - Syncfusion now provides localization support for rich-text-editor controls and spell-check controls. With localization support, you can alter existing labels in a control or create new language sets.
• Data-binding support - Syncfusion provides data-binding support for toolbars, menus, tree views, group bars, and tab strips so you can bind data from the following data sources: Access, Object, SQL, XML, Site Map
• Close-button support for tab strips - Syncfusion now provides support for displaying “Close” buttons that allow you to close the tabs for a tab strip. These buttons are supported in all the built-in skins and custom styles.
• New caption buttons for window control - Syncfusion now provides new caption buttons that allow you to maximize, minimize, restore, refresh, pin, or unpin a control.  Also, hovering effects for caption buttons have been added.
• Server-side support for dialog box - To interact with a server when performing any button-click option, Syncfusion now has raised server-side events for dialog boxes (SFAlert, SFPrompt, SFConfirm) in a window control.
• Customize text in progress bar - Syncfusion now provides an option for displaying custom text in a progress-bar control while the control is being displayed. With this feature, you can display text on the progress bar based on progress values.
• External dictionary support for spell-check control - The spell-check control now allows suggestions from external dictionary files; this is done by setting the dictionary path to a custom file that has the extension: .dic. The spell-check algorithm has been improved to perform faster spell-checking over a large text while offering suggestions that are more accurate.
• Show drop-down support for AutoComplete text box control - You can now display a list of options that are bound to the AutoComplete text box through the client-side (ShowDropDown) and server-side (InitiallyShown) properties without entering text into the control, the same way you do for a generic drop-down.
• New waiting pop-up indicator formats - Syncfusion has added indicator formats that improve the appearance of waiting pop-up controls.
• Documentation - Product documentation has been updated with a new User Guide that instructs you on how to get started with the following controls: waiting pop-up, upload box, generic drop-down, multi-selection drop-down, and multi-column drop-down; this documentation details the control’s usage with its client- and server-side properties and events.

Essential Chart ASP.NET

• Interlaced Grid - You can now interlace major and minor grids on the x- and y-axis. Fill color can also be specified.
• Watermark support - Essential Chart now allows users to add watermarks to chart areas. The watermark can be text, an image, or a combination of both. Font color and position of the watermark can also be customized.
• Minor grid lines - Essential Chart provides support for minor grid lines; you can differentiate between major and minor grid lines by using different colors and styles.
• AutoFormat support - Along with its existing palette support, Essential Chart now provides support for various AutoFormats, which, with a single click, can change the entire appearance of the chart’s background, gridlines, and font color.
• Improved divide-area support - The divide area has been improved—for pie, pyramid, and funnel charts—to separately show the series title under each section.
• Space between points in 2-D mode - Now, you can specify spacing between points in addition to spacing between series.
• Class reference - The Essential Chart ASP.NET class reference has been completely revamped.

Essential Diagram ASP.NET

• Port connection support - Essential Diagram now supports port connections, allowing you to drag the end points of a connector to the port of a shape.
• Overview control - A new overview control, similar to the one found in Windows Forms, has been implemented; you can now preview your diagram by simply passing it to the overview control.
• Smart Tag - Smart-tag support, listing the most common properties used in the designer, has been developed for the Diagram Web control.
• Size-to-text support for label - Now, text inside a label won't flow out of diagram symbols or shapes; it will automatically wrap inside.
• Class reference - The Essential Diagram ASP.NET class reference has been completely revamped.

Essential Schedule ASP.NET

• Data-binding support - Codeless-data-binding support has been added to Schedule. Map the database fields with the Schedule control to display them. Also, you can perform CUD operations with the bound source.
• Template support - Now define your templates with images and other elements along with schedule data.

Essential PDF

• PDF/A-1b - Added support for creating PDF/A-1b documents based on the ISO 19005-1:2005 standard. This standard defines a format for the long-term archiving of electronic documents, ensuring that documents will be reliably reproduced in the future.  This is suitable for governmental organizations and other places where archiving is of paramount importance.
• Bar code - Added support for rendering bar codes inside PDF documents; this feature also provides support for exporting rendered bar codes as images in various formats.
• Content Extraction - Added support for extracting text and images in a PDF document. This feature also supports extracting text and images from a specified range of pages.
• Improved HTML to PDF conversion - The HTML to PDF converter’s speed has been enhanced, and it now has the ability to enable or disable client scripts in a rendered Web page. It also supports automatic detection of page breaks in rendered Web pages.
• Other features - Several other features have been added, such as the ability to render HTML-styled text, line annotations, and text Web links.
• Improved documentation and samples - Enhanced documentation and samples provide greater details about new and existing features.

Essential XlsIO

• Medium-trust support - The latest version of Essential XlsIO supports deploying applications in medium trust. You can now work with XlsIO on the medium-trust level with the same API; this allows you to deploy your application in a shared hosting environment.
• RGB color support in XLSX - Spice up your reports with attractive RGB colors, and give your application rich styles.  This version adds support for reading and writing RGB colors in Excel 2007 XLSX format, enabling standard Excel 2007 32-bit color preservations in your application.
• Advanced conditional formatting - Excel 2007 has advanced support for conditional formatting. In this version, Essential XlsIO carries support for advanced visualizations in Excel 2007 XLSX format. You can now apply cell formatting to data bars, icon sets, and color scales when the data in a cell meets an applied condition; this provides you with an opportunity, when dealing with large amounts of data, to create visual effects, allowing you to compare the value of a cell to other cells.
• Improved XLSX Support - This version of Essential XlsIO has improved support, for XLSX files, that stabilizes reading and writing functions. You can now freeze a pane, split a pane, show or hide gridlines, ignore error indicators, read or write sheet-level document properties, read or write sheet-view properties, zoom, preview page-breaks, apply summary settings to a group, and parse chart data points in XLSX format.
• String preservation in range level - The latest version of Essential XlsIO adds a property that preserves strings in a worksheet when importing data. This gives users the ability to work with complex strings without having to type-convert while importing.
• Calculation modes - Excel allows you to set various modes in order to control formula calculations. This version of XlsIO gives you the ability to set calculation modes so that a user can change a calculation in order to prevent formulas from being calculated by default when opening an Excel file.
• Display properties - This version of Essential XlsIO contains properties used to get or set gridline colors and to show or hide scroll bars; this allows you to control the way an Excel workbook or worksheet is displayed. You can now set various colors for a gridline and enhance your reports with a rich look. You can also hide scroll bars, preventing the user from scrolling down.

Essential DocIO

• Improved .docx support - In DOCX format, Essential DocIO supports the same features that it previously supported in DOC format. Below are specific features added for this version:
• Mail-merge reading and writing support
• Form-fields preservation and writing support
• Reading and writing support for footnotes and endnotes
• Fill effects, background color, and watermark preservation support
• AutoShapes preservation support
• Improved Find and Replace - This feature has been enhanced so you can find and replace control characters such as carriage return and new line. This version also has added support to preserve the formatting of an existing placeholder while replacing content with or without formatting.
• Enhanced mail merge - For nested mail merge in tables, this feature merges information from a database with a document containing parent and child relationship tables within a table.
• ActiveX form controls preservation - Gives you the ability to preserve ActiveX controls—such as Text Box, Check Box, Option button, and Label—in both DOC and DOCX formats.
• Improved Doc to HTML support - Improving upon its format preservation, Essential DocIO now supports nested tables, shapes, and text-box preservation when converting a Word document to HTML.
• Comments support - Essential DocIO is now capable of removing all comments or only specific comments from a document.
• Image-bullet preservation for .doc to .docx - The ability to preserve image bullets in DOC-to-DOCX conversion has been added.

Essential Grid Web

• New pass through grouping – greatly improved applications scalability - Essential Grid adds support for an industry-first pass-through grouping mode. This mode allows you to delegate data processing work to the database server where it belongs while giving up nothing on the front-end. Your users will still be able to group, sort and filter data as before but your application will scale much better.
• New LINQ support - Complete support for LINQ.
• New datapager support -DataPager is a flexible control that enables easy paging. The Grid supports this control natively. Numeric style and Next / Previous style pagers are supported.
• New FilterBarTextCell - New FilterBarTextCell allows filtering records by simply typing search text.
• New Drag and drop rows -Complete support for Dragging and Dropping rows. Server side and Client side events are implemented.
• Client side improvements -Improved client side functionality including the ability to hide columns and respond to MouseOver events.
• RTL Support - Work with any Unicode-supported language using GridGroupingControl.
• FF 3.0 support - Now work seamlessly with Firefox 3.0 and all other Gecko browsers.
• Enhanced designer support
• New samples - Completely renovated samples show the casing-in-depth feature listing for GridGroupingControl.
• Updated Documentation - Documentation with in-depth details on using GridGroupingControl with new features has been updated.

Essential Tools Web

• New CAPTCHA control - A new CAPTCHA control has been added. This control is commonly used on websites to prevent automated submission of forms by scripts and robots.
• XHTML compliance - Most controls in Essential Tools are now XHTML 1.0 compliant including the Menu, Toolbar, TreeView, GenericDropDown, Window and RichTextEditor controls.
• Extensive client side features - Client side interactivity of the Toolbar, Menu, TreeView and TabStrip controls has been greatly enhanced.
• Rich text editor – CSS sprite optimization - Loading of images has been greatly optimized using a CSS Sprite based implementation and greatly reduced the number of HTTP requests made for image resources thereby improving startup performance.
• Improved script management -All new SFScriptManager allows for registering of scripts and loading them separately. Automatic compression of Javascript code is also supported.
• Static Menus - Multi-level static menus are supported to combine menus with the appearance of a Tabstrip control.
• Enhanced Upload control -The Uploadbox control now supports saving files in streams without saving to disk. Automatic collision detection and management is now built into the control.
• FF 3.0 support - Tools Web controls now support the FireFox 3 browser.
• New Skins - Office2007 Blue, Black, Silver, and Vista format styles have been added to all Tools Web controls that support skins.
• New samples - With this refresh, Syncfusion have added new samples to the Tools Web collection that show all the client- and server-side properties; events for Treeview, RichTextEditor, Tabstrip, Menu, and GroupBar controls are also demonstrated.
• Documentation - Product documentation has been updated with a new User Guide for MultiSelectionDropdown control that instructs the end user on how to get started with that control. It details the control's usage with its client- and server-side properties and events.

Essential Chart Web

• New clustered 3D view -Visualize 3D data clearly with the new clustered rendering mode. Series of data will be clearly spaced along the Z axis to improve visual clarity.
• Rich border styles - Enhance the appearance of charts using rich border styles built into the chart. 13 different border styles are included with extensive customization options.
• Enhanced scale break feature - Scale Break feature has been enhanced to better reflect real world data display
• Horizontal Error Bars -Error bars are used to visually highlight bounds of data plotted in a chart. This release adds support for horizontal error bars in addition to vertical error bars which were already supported
• Samples enhancement - Most of the samples have been revamped to give a consistent look and feel in order to show all the features

Essential Diagram Web

• New client side node resizing - Essential Diagram now supports resizing of nodes on the client side.
• New node context menu -Context menus can now be associated with diagram nodes.
• New in place text node editing - Essential Diagram now supports in-place editing of text in a node.
• New resize connectors using end points - Essential Diagram now supports resizing connectors by dragging end points.

Essential Schedule Web

• New month view support -Support for the display of appointments by month
• Blocked time appointment - Ability to block specific appointments such that they cannot be overridden

Essential XLSIO Web

• Support for compound file format in managed code - This change enabled Medium trust support for XlsIO.
• Support for scrolling to a particular row/column - This version provides support for scrolling to particular row/column in a large worksheet while opening with Excel.
• Support for getting used range of data without formatting - Support for obtaining range of rows/columns in a spreadsheet with data without considering empty cells that simply contain formatting

• PolyLine Link Tool -Another tool added to enhance your users’ experience designing diagrams - Check out the new PolyLine Link Tool that can create PolyLine links.
• Selection Handle Customization -Improve or customize the look and feel of Diagram node selection handles. You can change the colors and also allow users to show or hide the handles.
